LinkedIn Boolean Search Generator

Find people by the words they use. Group job-title alternatives, require another term and exclude unwanted matches. Check the query before you copy it into LinkedIn.

Build a search, or check a query you already have.

Go to query editor

Build your search

One word or phrase per line. Alternatives in each group use OR; groups are joined with AND.

Examples, not saved searches. Loading fills the builder without replacing your query.

1 of 5 groups

Up to 12 terms per group. Phrases get straight quotes automatically. Add terms, not Boolean operators or filters.

One per line, up to 12. Adds NOT; broad exclusions can hide useful people.

Review your query

Edit freely or paste an existing query. The syntax check updates as you type.

In LinkedIn or Sales Navigator, Keywords can match words across a profile, including past roles. SaaS is a word match, not a company-industry filter.

0 / 3000 characters0 operators

Build or paste a query to check quotes, groups, and operators.

Copy, paste, then narrow the results

Paste into a supported Keywords field in LinkedIn or Sales Navigator. Check actual profiles: a matching keyword is not proof that someone fits your market.

Set location, company size and industry with LinkedIn filters. This checks syntax, not search results or LinkedIn acceptance. If a query is rejected, try fewer terms.

  1. Finds prospects

Describe your ideal customer to find people who fit, or let Intent Signals find them by their LinkedIn activity. You choose who to add.

  2. Prioritizes actions

Two short lists for today, comments and DMs, every item with a reason.

  3. Prepares drafts

Drafts use the actual post or conversation and your writing style. Extrovert checks for AI-sounding phrases before you review.

Illustration of two ways to find people. Describe your ICP with Lead Finder: a search for "Heads of Sales at B2B SaaS in the US" turns into people matching your ICP. Or listen for signals with Intent Signals: a radar sweeping LinkedIn activity picks people out by what they did: liked your post, mentioned a keyword you track, commented on a competitor's post.

How to build a LinkedIn Boolean search

  1. Choose where to search

For a role-only search, choose the current job title field in Sales Navigator. Use Keywords when you want terms from across a profile. Availability and limits depend on your LinkedIn product and search field.

  2. Group the alternatives

Enter one title or phrase per line. VP Sales and Head of Sales go in the same OR group. Add an AND group only if every match must also include one of its terms.

  3. Exclude carefully

Add unwanted terms to the exclusion field. NOT applies to the whole group of exclusions. Start with a short list: a relevant person may mention a role they held years ago.

  4. Check, copy and test

Build the query, then edit it directly if needed. The checker points to syntax errors. Copy into the search field you chose, use LinkedIn filters for geography and company size, and review actual profiles before saving your search.

Good to know

Quotes match a phrase
The builder wraps multi-word phrases in straight double quotes. Head of Sales becomes "Head of Sales". Enter phrases without quotes in the builder; write quotes yourself in the query editor.
Boolean words are not LinkedIn filters
SaaS in a Keywords query looks for that word in a profile. It does not restrict results to SaaS employers. Use the industry, location, current company and company headcount filters where available.
Your terms stay on this page
The builder and checker run in your browser. Search terms are not uploaded, stored or added to URLs. Copy the query before closing the tab.

Frequently asked questions

What is a LinkedIn Boolean search?

A Boolean search combines words with uppercase AND, OR and NOT. AND requires both terms, OR matches alternatives, and NOT excludes a term. Straight double quotes keep a phrase together, and parentheses group alternatives: ("VP Sales" OR "Head of Sales") NOT recruiter.

Can I use this with Sales Navigator?

Yes. Build a title-only query for a supported job title field, or use Keywords to search more broadly across profiles. Apply location, industry, company and headcount filters in Sales Navigator itself. Test your query in the field you use; the checker does not verify LinkedIn acceptance.

How do I search for several job titles?

Put each title on its own line in one group. The builder joins them with OR and quotes multi-word titles. Add another group only when every result must also match one of that group’s terms; groups are joined with AND.

Why is my Boolean search not working?

Check for unclosed quotes or parentheses, missing terms after operators, lowercase operators and unsupported wildcards. The editor points to syntax issues. If the syntax is valid but LinkedIn rejects the query, remove alternatives or nested groups and test a shorter query in a supported search field.

Does LinkedIn Boolean search support wildcards or Google X-ray syntax?

This tool does not support wildcards, plus or minus prefixes, or field operators such as site: and title:. Google X-ray search uses a different search engine and syntax. For this checker, use uppercase AND, OR and NOT, straight double quotes and parentheses.

Is there a maximum number of Boolean operators?

Limits vary by LinkedIn product and field. This checker counts operators and suggests simplifying longer expressions, but does not enforce a universal LinkedIn operator limit. Its input and nesting caps protect this local tool, not your LinkedIn account.

Can I check a query I already wrote?

Paste it directly into the Boolean query editor. The syntax check updates as you type, with clickable errors that select the offending character. Manual edits stay intact until you explicitly replace them with builder output.

Is this generator free, and is my search saved?

It is free and needs no signup. Terms are built and checked in your browser, not uploaded or stored. Closing the tab clears them. This is an independent utility, not an official LinkedIn tool.
